A new drama about the Scottish suffragettes
jailed in Perth and the prison doctor who force-fed them

by Ajay Close

The Cat and Mouse project is an exciting experiment in developing a play in collaboration with its potential audience, and demonstrating its audience appeal to theatrical producers, funders and possible co-producers.

In 2012 we are looking for partners to work with us on a production of the play to tour theatres across Scotland.

The script has received three rehearsed readings at different stages of development. At the Soutar Theatre, Perth, in October 2010; at the Royal Lyceum, Edinburgh, in March 2011; and at Perth Theatre Studio in July 2011. All three readings were directed by Muriel Romanes of Stellar Quines Theatre Company. Feedback from these audiences (some 400 people) has been extremely positive.

The Cat and Mouse team gratefully acknowledges the generous support of the Gannochy Trust, Perth and Kinross Council Arts Development Service, Perth Theatre, the Royal Lyceum Theatre, and Stellar Quines Theatre Company.

We need your participation. Please add your comments on the Women’s Rights Today,
Cat and Mouse - your feedback, and Our Suffragette Stories pages.
